Russo-Ukrainian War 8/12/22

Russian forces have remained stalled across the line of contact amidst limited acknowledgment of a Ukrainian missile strike on a Crimean airbase.

Ongoing Russian artillery strikes across the frontlines have been met with increasing Ukrainian resistance and counterfire, particularly shelling targetting the bridges leading into Kherson. Ahead of a possible counteroffensive, citizens of Kherson have increasingly reported panicked Russian soldiers and their families starting to find ways to leave, even as collaborators are struck by members of occupied Ukraine’s rising partisan movements.

Even if Russia is unwilling to concede Kherson Oblast, the troops he has sent to bolster the region will be unable to secure the city against a possible Ukrainian counterattack. Should Ukraine receive the donations necessary to evict Russia from Kherson, they would likely begin before summer’s end or in the early spring of 2023.
