Russo-Ukrainian War 9/23/22

Iranian drones were used in an attack in Odesa and were engaged by Ukrainian air defenses.

It has been reported that two drones targeted the city, killing one person. One of the drones was shot down by air defenses, though the foray so deep into Ukrainian territory alarmed civilians.

The use of Iranian kamikaze drones underscores Russia’s increased reliance on its limited partners, with the buying of North Korean shells delineating a clear shortage in munitions. The drones have also increased calls amongst Ukrainians to demand more advanced drones from the United States. Despite the Bayraktar TB2 drone’s massive success during the first phase of the war, Russian air defenses have now rendered the Turkish drone far too risky to operate, hence the need for more robust/survivable materiel.
