Amidst the celebration of Ukrainian flag day and Independence Day, both the Ukrainian government and the U.S. State Department have warned of a possible Russian escalation against urban population centers.
Russia previously began transferring missilery assets into Belarus, possibly in preparation for reprisals for the now deadly use of HIMARS in southern Ukraine. The likelihood of an escalation by Russia is raised slightly by recent attacks in Crimea, which have occurred as Russian citizens and media call for catastrophic consequences for attacking what they consider Russian territory.
Should Russia attempt to attack Kyiv or other major population centers this week, their efforts to terrorize the population will likely fall flat as stiff Ukrainian resistance and burgeoning western support continue to plague Putin’s territorial ambitions.
