Russo-Ukrainian War 8/20/22

Russian forces remain stalled across the line of contact as new Western artillery shipments promise a bitter cost for Russian forces reinforcing occupied territories.

With consistent strikes as deep as Crimea now occurring with regularity, an aura of unease has descended upon Russia, whose leaders are tasked with measuring a response to the blatant strikes. Ukraine has warned of a potential attack on the 22-25th, as the 23rd will be Ukraine’s national flag day, followed shortly by Ukraine’s Independence Day.

Though previously anticipated dates like the Russian victory day parade ended with a feeble Russian response, there is now little the Kremlin can do, barring already constant threats of conventional or nuclear escalation. Very soon, Putin will need to consider escalating or face the bitter reality that he has long ago lost the war in Ukraine.
