Ukrainian forces fought for a long time-far longer than many analysts and even supporters thought necessary. Despite fighting in a disadvantaged position, Ukrainian defenders did not retreat to a more defendable area but somehow still managed to fight on for weeks.

Fighting is still ongoing, but Sievierodonetsk has painted a grim picture of Russia on Ukraine’s inexhaustible resistance, which has rallied the West in support of a protracted war.

Kaliningrad Crisis

Lithuania warned that Russia could seek a provocation, as Russia is ill-equipped to strike an equivalent economic blow without military efforts. Russia’s response should be cleared in the coming days: so far, a smattering of economic actions have been taken, along with promises that Lithuanians will suffer in the “near future” as a result of their government’s actions.
